Leroy Lindsey, Ph.D

Senior Fellow | JCW Center en Español

D r. Lindsey’s ministry interests center on adequately expressing the doctrine of holiness as presented in the Bible, in the terminology and perspective of the classic holiness preachers, but for the twenty-first century audience. Recently, Leroy has concentrated on a call to return to a radical concept of what it means to be purified from sin and live in the power of the Holy Spirit. His teaching focuses mainly on the theology of sanctification and on Paul’s epistles (Romans, Corinthians, Colossians, Ephesians, and Philippians) and the epistle to the Hebrews.

Leroy is ordained by the Evangelical Methodist Church (EMC). He earned his M.A. degree in Religion (focus in Theology and Philosophy of Religion) from Wesley Biblical Seminary, an M.A. degree in Humanities (focus in Philosophy) from Western Kentucky University, and his Ph.D. degree in Historical Theology from Drew University. He also holds a B.A. degree in Bible from Vennard College and a B.M.E. (Bachelor of Music Education) degree in Voice from Drake University. Leroy and his wife, Kay, served as missionary teachers at Life and Truth Bible Institute in Mexico through the Evangelical Methodist Church for 11 years, with Leroy serving as the director the last two years. Then, after 18 years of ministry in the United States—pastoring and teaching in Mississippi, California, Iowa, Kentucky, and New Jersey—Leroy and Kay returned to Mexico as missionaries through OMS for 15 years. There, Leroy served as president of SEMBIMEX, the biblical seminary of Mexico, as well as interim pastor for several churches. He was officially named President Emeritus of SEMBIMEX in 2015. Since 2010, Leroy has been assigned internationally, teaching in seminaries, universities, and Bible institutes in the U.S., Mexico, Haiti, Central and South America, Korea, India, Myanmar, Spain, and the South Pacific. In 2000, he taught the doctrine of holiness in Kazakhstan. Every other summer, he returns to Seoul Theological University to teach an intensive one-week course, “the Nineteenth Century Holiness Movement.” Leroy and Kay have been married since 1965 and have two children and four grandchildren, living in New Jersey, Florida and Georgia. His favorite hobby is cutting extremely detailed, authentic-looking snowflakes out of paper.
